Our Mission

Paw Pals aims to ensure that every shelter animal is seen by connecting people with animals through the act of letter writing. These words of encouragement serve as symbols of hope for overlooked shelter animals but also give shelters a new and powerful way to share each animal’s story. Each message helps tell a dog’s story and brings them one step closer to finding a home.

These letters give a voice to the voiceless, making an accessible opportunity for anyone to help shelter animals. Young animal lovers who may not be able to volunteer, foster, or adopt, can still make a real impact in a free, simple way. At a time where shelters are facing an unprecedented crisis, community engagement has never been more critical. Paw Pals hopes to inspire individuals to use their voice for compassion.

Writing a letter could be the first step for anyone to become a shelter animal advocate.

OUR STORY

Paw Pals was inspired by Paris, a dog who spent months in the shelter struggling with severe kennel stress. Despite being a sweet, loving companion, Paris was overlooked again and again.

An Instagram campaign encouraged people to write “love letters for Paris” and mail them to the shelter. Letters poured in from across the U.S. and even internationally, showing that Paris wasn’t forgotten, she had supporters from all over rooting for her. These letters were only the beginning for Paris, who would be featured on a Times Square billboard and shared on the news. She went from quietly struggling at the shelter to eventually being adopted by a wonderful family.

What began with Paris has grown into living proof that small acts—like writing a letter—can create significant, lasting change. Paw Pals was created to give every shelter animal the chance to have their own journey, like Paris:  going from unseen in a kennel to being adopted into a loving home.
