Description: Meet Homer
Homer is a four-year-old West Highland Terrier MIX with a big personality and a lot of love to give to the right person. When he first arrived, he was cautious about handling, but with patience and gentle care, he's learned to trust and enjoy affection. Once he bonds with someone, Homer becomes a very sweet and loving companion who seeks attention, enjoys being pet, and loves sitting in laps. He is extremely food motivated and has made great progress in his foster home, where he's shown how playful and affectionate he can be. Homer does have some resource guarding around food and toys, but his foster has been successfully managing it by giving him space during mealtimes and working on trading toys for treats, which he's responding to well. He can also get protective of furniture and prefers not to be moved when he's settled, but he communicates his boundaries clearly. Homer walks nicely on leash, enjoys meeting other dogs, and does well on walks with them, though he may do best as the only pet in the home or with an experienced adopter who can manage his guarding behaviors in a multi-dog setting. Because of his sensitivities, Homer is best suited for an adult-only home with someone experienced in reading dog body language and comfortable providing calm, consistent guidance. In return, he offers loyalty, affection, and the charm that only a Westie can bring. Homer may have a few quirks, but with understanding and love, he has all the makings of a devoted and delightful companion.
